The Village is world famous for its connections with Scotland's National Bard Robert Burns. The house in which he lived, now a Museum still stands and Mossgiel Farm just a few yards from the Burns Monument, opened in 1896 together with the Jean Armour Statue , the Churchyard where members of his family and friends are buried attract many visitors from around the world.The Fairburn is home to the Mauchline Burns Club. established in 1923 and where Robert Burns in 1786 held 'readings' when the hotel was then known as 'John McClelland's Inn.'..

The Historic Village of Mauchline is situated on the A76 Kilmarnock to Dumfries road at its junction with the B743 Mauchline to Ayr road, 8 miles outside Kilmarnock and 10 miles from Ayr (Prestwick Airport) and 25 miles from Glasgow Airport via the M77.The Fairburn is situated on a prominent corner site on Loudoun Street in the centre of Mauchline. There is a large Public Car park with access directly beside the Hotel.
